Eschar

Erosion of the skin resulting from a burn, infection, or skin disease. It typically occurs when the skin rubs continuously or habitually against some element such as bed sheets or clothing, and when a bone prominence, such as the elbows, heels, hips or spine, presses on a more or less rigid area.

It usually occurs frequently in patients who are bedridden for a long period.

For its classification, it is divided into grades I to IV, and depending on the grade, will be treated in one way or another.

To avoid its occurrence, it is very important to maintain the skin well hydrated, and depending on the nurse's assessment, protective dressings will be placed in the risk areas, or an anti-bedsore mattress will be placed in the upper part of the bed, which by inflating and deflating different areas of this will allow to prevent continuous pressure on the same side.
