Every year in Spain more than 77,000 women are diagnosed with some type of cancer. With the aim of discussing the importance of health, beauty and special care before, during and after cancer treatments, MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid has taken part in the ‘Cancer Beauty Care’ event organized by Mujer Hoy magazine at the ABC Museum in Madrid.

The event gathered around 150 people, among whom were patients, family members and friends of patients, bloggers and experts in the different disciplines of oncology. Among the specialists representing MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid and participating in the event were Dr. Santiago Gonzalez, Director of Medical Services, Dr. Pedro Robledo, of the Clinical and Dietary Nutrition Unit, Dr. Emilio Garcia, Head of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Service and Marina Mansilla, Outpatients’ nurse.

Those participating shared their doubts and questions with the aim of finding solutions and resources with which to face the disease and, in particular, to help people recover their confidence and self-esteem, which is fundamental to getting through the cancer process. In the words of Dr. Santiago Gonzalez, ‘the best resource we have with which to fight the fear of cancer, something latent throughout the general population, is information, because when you know what you are facing and you know your enemy, you can fight back’.

In addition to the presence of MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid specialists, the event was also supported by La Roche-Posay, the Spanish Cancer Association (AECC) and the Spanish Association of Cancer Patients (GEPAC).
