According to data from the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), it is estimated that this year more than 270,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Spain, a number that increases every year. Of these, almost half will be in women, who will mostly be diagnosed with breast, colon or gynecological cancer (cervix, uterus or ovary). As a patient, facing the news of a cancer diagnosis can be shocking, even devastating, and there will be many questions - will I get through this? Will I have physical aftereffects? Will the treatment work or will it be a waste of time?

With the aim of helping women diagnosed with cancer and their families to find answers to all these questions, to cope as best as possible with the evolution and treatment of the disease and to manage the emotions that may arise in a situation like this, Mujerhoy magazine and MD Anderson Madrid have organized the VII Encuentro #mujerhoyCancerCare: Health, care and prevention of cancer in women on April 23.

During the event, several talks will be held on the causes, treatment and prevention of tumors that are exclusively diagnosed in women, such as ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancers, as well as tumors such as breast cancer, which is much more frequent in women than in men. And it will be breast cancer that opens the day with a talk in which the disease will be addressed from a global point of view, dealing with aspects like the importance of multidisciplinary management of the tumor, or debating more controversial issues like mastectomy.

In addition, during the conference, there will be a talk on "Motherhood, Fertility and Cancer" in which patients and health professionals can discuss their doubts and real life experiences with fertility and cancer. Among the most interesting subjects to be dealt with is being diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or the chances of becoming pregnant after cancer.

At the end of the event, attendees can participate in a variety of workshops such as, for example, "Cancer Beauty Care", which will deal with the many special beauty care treatments available to the cancer patient before, during and after treatment, since looking and feeling good is essential to the recovery of patients. There will also be a practical workshop on "Emotions" dealing with identifying, analyzing and managing emotions to better cope with the disease. Finally, there will be an Onco-Yoga workshop, designed and adapted to patients who are going through treatment or who have already done so.

Throughout the meeting, attendees and specialists can share their opinions and impressions on social networks using the hashtag #mujerhoyCancerCare.
