Hickman Catheter

Intravenous central device placed on the chest, especially in hematological patients. It may have one or two ports or lumen, the dual lumen type being the most common. It requires a small surgical procedure for placement and remain in place throughout treatment. It is indispensable in patients undergoing bone marrow transplants. For its maintenance, a number of daily care measures are required to ensure its adequate functioning. Request the protocol care from your nurse.
