Code of ethics

Our institution is a specialized center dedicated to caring for people with cancer and to the prevention and eradication of that malignant disease. We strive to combine patient care with prevention, education and research for the benefit of not only the patients currently in our care, but for future generations, too. The hospital has this code of ethics as a guide for the coexistence of patients and staff who work together in the fight against cancer.

  • Principal 1
  • Patient care is our highest priority. Respect extols courage and dignity in life.
  • Principal 2
  • The main aims of our institution are curing the disease, reducing suffering and providing an acceptable quality of life with the help of the medical staff.
  • Principal 3
  • It is our responsibility to provide assessment and help for the patients and their families by giving them the information they need to take decisions.
  • Principal 4
  • Information about patients is confidential and must not be revealed to third parties without the consent of the patient him/herself. All information must be stored meticulously and communicated responsibly.
  • Principal 5
  • Prevention is a key part of our work. By means of education, preventive clinical services and research, we work towards reducing the incidence of cancer and helping people who may never become our patients. The people who turn to our preventive services should be treated with sensitivity and confidentiality, while avoiding causing any harm whatsoever.
  • Principal 6
  • We are committed to moving forward in the fight against cancer, sharing our knowledge and experience, our techniques and the ethical values that constitute the pillars of this institution.
  • Principal 7
  • Both clinical research and study in itself are paramount to our work. They are fundamental to prevention, diagnostics, treatment and, finally, to the eradication of cancer. Research requires activities that allow improvement in the care of the patient and their family, who always have the right information about risks and benefits. Equally, reports must faithfully reflect details collected with absolute integrity and precision.
  • Principal 8
  • Those who are part of our institution carry out specific tasks and hold specific positions although they are all equal regarding the relationship with the patients; each of us has a moral obligation towards our patients.
  • Principal 9
  • We emphasize the need to show mutual respect and knowledge about other disciplines as members of a team who are responsible for the welfare of the patients.
  • Principal 10
  • Therapy against cancer, prevention, research and education involve a high economic cost requiring constant funding – however, the financial aspect should not condition the quality of care each patient receives.
