Yellowish coloration of skin and mucosal membranes caused by a higher than normal amount of serum bilirubin. It is a symptom of many conditions such as liver disease, biliary obstruction, or hemolytic anemia. Jaundice causes symptoms, in addition to the special coloration, such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and urine is usually dark.
