Dr. Javier de Santiago Garcia, until recently head of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service at La Paz University Hospital, has been named head of the Gynecology Service at MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid. Dr. de Santiago takes over the position after more than twenty years working at one of the most important hospitals in the country – he headed the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service for six of those years, with the aim of lending his experience and knowledge to the patients of MD Anderson Madrid.

“It is a great opportunity for me to dedicate myself more exclusively to gynecologic oncology, which is one of the fields in which most advances have been made in recent years, and to be able to do so at the prestigious MD Anderson Madrid. It is also my intention to work on other important aspects of gynecology, such as advanced endoscopic surgery and the treatment of endometriosis”, he explained.

Dr. de Santiago is currently president of the Gynecologic Oncology Section of the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SEGO), a position he has combined with his work as an associate professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid since October 2003.

Furthermore, the doctor, who obtained his degree in medicine and surgery from the Autonomous University of Madrid, has worked on over a hundred articles and scientific papers and has taken part, as a lecturer and/or coordinator, in numerous training courses throughout his career.
